Hello All and Happy New Year!
Some of you have been counting down the days along with me, and some of you are just as surprised as I am, that my trip is right around the corner! Most importantly, I would like to welcome all of you to my blog site and thank you for checking it out!
In the months leading up to this trip I fequented many "Goin to Ghana" blogs. I found them pretty imformative and genuinely helpful in my preparations. Now, with my departure date right around the corner, my last couple of days have been filled with packing, packing and more packing--so I think it's only appropriate to include a copy of my packing list as my first post.
Clothes: Should easy to wash by hand, somewhat conservative, and suitable for the "Ghana heat."
5 Pairs of shorts
5 matching shirts
3 sandals, 1 tennis shoe
Toiletries: ziplock all liquids!
Plenty of sunscreen
2 pairs of twin sheets: One to use and one to wash--a tip from Mom! ;)
1 Towel, facecloth etc
Make sure I have all my shots!...
*Make sure to bring prescriptions for airport security*
Musinex
Dayquil
Claritin
180 days of Malarone, Malaria medicine
1 Mosquito Net & 1 Rope
2 Aerosol Cans of bug spray 30% Deet
(I'm REALLY trying to avoid the mosquitoes--can you tell?)
1 Lantern: Much of Ghana runs on hydroelectric power from a nearby dams, so during the spring dry season power outages can be somewhat commonplace.

1 Skype phone
Batteries of assorted sizes
Camera
Laptop & lock
Passport with copies for travel
Travel insurance card
International Student ID card

Any and everything else I may need i'll just purchase when i arrive! Not knowing what to expect has proven to be the main source of both excitement and anxiety. Im just going to enjoy myself and always air on the side of caution :)
